Memorial Day, Monday, May 25, 2009

This is Great, and from Dear Abby:

Each man and woman who laid down a life for this country was someone loved and cherished by family and friends. They are deeply missed. We are all diminished by their deaths, as indeed, we are enriched by the example of their courage and dedication.

The Library!

Today was Brady Joseph Dixon's introduction to The Carrollton Library.

First order of business was to head to 7-11 to get Brady a slurpee. Then to Taco Bueno to get grandma a taco and iced tea. THEN to the car wash. We decided on the one on Hebron as we get to ride in the car through that car wash (before they clean the interior). Brady likes to watch the soap, and brushes, the rinses, etc.

THEN - The Library. Brady is really into books. We walk into the Library, and I explained to him that you have to "whisper" while in the Library, and he did not forget that even one time. He chose 7 books pretty darned quick (most of them about animals, 2 about Santa). Then he whispered, "grandma, lets buy them!". I explained to him that we get to "borrow" them and when we bring them back we can borrow 7 more. He liked this plan. We checked out our books on their nifty machine, and headed back to grandma's house. We read the longest one about the Bengal Tiger and the little Kitty that needed a name. We packed all 7 books in a paper bag with handles and he and mommy took them home with him. It was a great day with the little toot!

I am so blessed!

Now I am waiting for the rain to start, car is spotless!

Get Over IT!

This is a "Bit" on KISS FM, and it is a nice distraction from all the worries of our world.

Listeners call in with their "Get Over It" statements.......for example:

"I am a young black man dating the hottest blonde white girl in Dallas - Get Over It!!"
"I am engaged to your ex-husband and he bought me a Tiffany 2-carat engagement ring - Get Over It!!"

Here's mine: "I am a 54 year old woman who just finished the 3rd book in the Twilight series - Get Over It!!". ha ha ha........

A little fiction never hurt anyone!!!

Mother's Day!

Mother's Day......ahhh what a wonderful day! I thank God for my mother, that He blessed me with being a mother, and that he blessed Nicole with being a mother! God is great and God is good, we are so blessed.

Nicole, Ally, Zach, Brady and I celebrated with gifts and food at On The Border (thanks to my boss for the OTB gift card!). Brady just had to sit by grandma, which made me smile ear-to-ear, but Nicole will probably not invite me next year! lol......

Ally, Zach and Brady helped me create a special Mug for their wonderful mommy (with their autographs and sentiments) that we baked in the oven! We went shopping during the week, so they could spend their own money to buy mommy special gifts, and she treasured them all.

Brian is in Houston trying out for America's Got Talent, and if he wins, he has promised Nicole she can have one more baby! I am praying hard!!! You never know, next year their might be four kiddos at the celebration!

Let's all remember - "No one loves you like your mama does!".

Thank you God for blessing our lives with children.

Great Use of my Time

I went to the Women's Spring Luncheon at my sister's church in Grand Prairie this morning. What a great use of my time.

I had no idea she belonged to such a big church. She and Roger have been members there for almost 1-1/2 years. Nor did I have any idea the Luncheon would be such an elaborate affair.

Each table (18 that seated 8 per table) had a hostess that was in charge of decorating it. The tablecloths were all Spring colors - some pink, some blue, some yellow, some green. Each table had a different theme. Some Beach, some Garden, some Spring, one "Elegant" - the hostess for this table brought in real china place settings, gold plated silverware, etc. Each place setting at every table had a gift for the occupant to take home. The gifts at our table were sugar body scrubs, yummy..... relief ahead for my dry skin.

The special music was very good, but the woman speaker was excellent. A strong woman of God, at least in her 50's who is working toward her Master's degree. Here are the bullet points of her speech - "Revive - Renew - Refresh":
  • What is choking my spirit?
  • What is marring my life from its beauty right now?
  • What one thing do I need - to take a fresh, clear look at in my life?
  • What relationship do I need to revive?
  • What is overwhelming me?
  • What do I need to release in order to be refreshed?
Honest answers to all of these questions will put us on a "spring cleaning" mission for our souls.

Books that will refresh your spirit:
Bible: Lamentations 3:22-23, Psalms 51:10,12, Isaiah 40:28-31, Romans 12:2
"The Practice of the Presence of God" by Brother Lawrence
"Firstsight" by Sue Monk Kidd
"Waking the Dead" by John Eldredge
"Gift From the Sea" by Anne Morrow Lindbergh
"Just Give Me Jesus" by Anne Graham Lotz

We all need to look out more, and look in less. Use the strengths and gifts that God has given us. Take a fresh new look at "what has settled over your spirit and covered your beauty?". Are you missing something in your life?....hobby....relationship......friend. We need to take a good hard look at ourselves and extract the precious and let go of the rest, people are always going to disapoint us.

I had a great morning.

Brady Went to Heaven

Brady went to heaven on this day in 1996. I miss him. I'll always miss him. I praise God my son knew Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. It brings me peace to know that no one can ever hurt him, in word or in deed. He will never have to struggle, or suffer. He is safe in the arms of Jesus. With all that I am, and all that I hope to be, I love you. Mom. Psalms 27: 1-4.

Barrett's Esophagus

I saw a test for "Barrett's Esophagus" actually being performed live on Good Morning America. The patient was awake as a tube with a camera was actually put through his nose and down his esophagus. He did not even flinch! But he had had the procedure done several times so he was a pro.

Bartett's Esophagus normally occurs in those with Acid Reflux and it can turn into esophagael cancer. There is tons of info about it in the internet.

"Patients with Barrett's usually have symptoms similar to those produced by chronic GERD, such as heartburn and reflux of stomach acid into the mouth. Some Barrett's patients may also suffer from other complications of GERD, such as esophageal peptic ulcers and stricture -- narrowing of the esophagus that comes from scarring. These facts are why it is important for patients with these symptoms to see their physicians regularly."

"Diagnosis of Barrett's esophagus requires an examination called upper endoscopy or EGD (esophagogastroduodenoscopy). A barium x-ray is not accurate for detecting Barrett's esophagus. An EGD is done with the patient under sedation. The physician examines the lining of the esophagus and stomach with a thin, lighted, flexible endoscope. Biopsies are performed, taking pieces of tissue to be examined under a microscope for abnormal cells which have the potential of becoming malignant. The changes may be indefinite dysplasia where the pathologist may be uncertain of the changes. In this circumstance, medical treatment is intensified and repeat biopsies are performed in 6-12 months. When dysplasia is definite, some type of definite correction is necessary."

The Lord's Prayer

Our Father: I belong to you. That's the truth from which I live and breathe today.

Who art in Heaven: You are the same yesterday, today, and every day.

Hallowed be Your name: Show yourself in my thoughts, motives, conversations, and actions toward others. Let me not disgrace your holiness. Show me that You are the peace that I need, the victory I want, the guiding security I long to feel.

Your kingdom come: Reign in my life as You rule in heaven. Come as King in righteousness, joy, and peace in the Holy Spirit.

Your will be done on earth: In my heart and my tasks, do Your will.

Give us this day our daily bread: Let me remember who puts the food on my table and gives me the air I breathe. You are my strength for each step I take.

Forgive me my sins as I forgive those who sinned against me: Help me keep short accounts, holding no offenses and no unforgiveness.

Lead me not into temptation: I don't want to act out of my weakness or wounded flesh. Where sin and the need for healing abound, Your grace much more abounds.

Deliver me from evil: Protect me from harm, because greater are You that is in me than my adversary who is in the world.

Yours is the kingdom, the power and the glory forever: You have all power and all ability to do all things well, forever and forever. Amen!

Beverly Hills Chihuahua - Mini Review

Ahhh! This is the cutest movie! It is silly and sweet and funny. Definitely a "girls" movie, but all dog lovers should see it.

It has a sweet love story. Chloe, the star is a....somewhat spoiled little Chicuahua. She is perfectly dressed from head to "toes" in fabulous outfits that can rival those of the Sex and the City stars! Jewelry to match - and yes, her diamond necklace is real!!!

Her chihuahua admirer, Papi, comes from the 'wrong side of the tracks'. His "dad" is the landscaper for Chloe's "mom's" yard. Although Chloe continually spurs his advances, he is not deterred. When Chloe ends up lost in Mexico (long story), Papi (and his owner) are relentless in their search to find her. They finally rescue her, but not until she learns many valuable lessons about life and her chihuahua heritage. Papi's determination pays off, and Chloe realizes it is indeed - true "puppy love"!

If you want to be (simply) entertained and see the best dressed dogs in zipcode 90210, then go see this movie. You won't be disappointed!

Benjamin Button

There is a good reason you should review a movie right after you see it....before Old Timer's sets in. Oh well - I will give it my best shot.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button - this film has received 13 Oscar nominations....I was surprised to hear this. On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd rate it a 7. The one category it deserved to be nominated for (Best Supporting Actress) it was not.

A lovely black woman, actress Faune Chambers, played the woman who "adopted" baby Benjamin (played by Brad Pitt) as a newborn infant. This woman can teach us all a lesson in unconditional love. Benjamin's mother died in childbirth and his daddy left him on this woman's door step. Although the baby is as wrinkled and bony as an 80 year old man (this looks very eerie in a 6 pound package), her first words when she sees him (after the initial gasp of shock) is something like, "this is a creature of God who deserves to be loved."

This Christian woman raises Benjamin as her own. She loves him as deeply as if she had gave birth to him. The "older" Benjamin gets in years, the younger his physical appearance becomes. I guess he looks around 70 when he is 5 or 6 years old and has leg braces on. His "mama" takes him to a church where he gets blessed by a charismatic preacher and is then able to get out of his wheelchair and walk. "Mama's" eyes are filled with tears, as she treasures this boy with all her heart and soul.

The movie gets very long. It seemed to me like he would never be...40...or 30....I think they draw out the "old man" period of this movie way too long.

He is a toddler at the end of the movie. The woman who had fallen in love with him when he was around 30, and gave birth to his child, is now his caretaker.

A little too weird for me - but a GREAT lesson of Unconditional Love is the take away.

Jett Travolta...

Today I am thankful I am not burying my child.

Tomorrow is promised to know one, and but for the Grace of God - "there walks you or me".

When you are at this place, it seems the world should stop turning. But you look around and see that everyone is still working, playing, shopping. But for you - time is standing still, and it seems impossible that life can go on - for anyone - when your heart is so Broken that it is hard to breathe.

My heart is so sad, and my spirit is so heavy for John Travolta and Kelly Preston as they will bury their beloved son, Jett in the next few days.....I am in constant prayer for them.

We do not know why God calls some home so early. It is a hopeless feeling as a parent to wonder "why did MY son have to go so soon".

But our sons are already in Heaven, and they already know the answer....let that bring us a small measure of comfort.

My Dear God, hold John and Kelly and Ella in the palm of your Hand....you alone can heal them.
